Best Cheap M4A4 Skins in CS2 (2026), and When to Pick the M4A1-S Instead

The best cheap M4A4 skins in CS2 are Evil Daimyo, Tooth Fairy and Griffin under $5, Spider Lily and Hellish around $10 to $20, and Covert picks like Temukau, In Living Color and The Battlestar under $50 in Field-Tested. If you're deciding between the two CT rifles, the M4A4 is the cheaper one to dress at the top tier: its typical Covert cost a little over half what an M4A1-S Covert did on our check date ($59.41 against $106.85).
The pages ranking for M4A4 skins are either catalogs with no prices or lists from 2023 that miss every finish added since. Here every pick has a price band, read on 10 October 2026 from the lowest tradable Skinport listing (wears with at least three listings), and the dated 2024-26 additions get their own section. Steam Market prices ran higher the same day: a Field-Tested Evil Daimyo listed from $3.30 there against $2.70 on Skinport. Bands are a map; check the live price before you buy.

Under $5

Evil Daimyo (Falchion Collection) is the loud budget M4A4: bright red plating over black, under $5 in every wear from Minimal Wear down. Its float stops at 0.52, so even the cheapest copy isn't wrecked. Tooth Fairy, a Classified finish from the Fracture Collection, brings pastel pink and teal illustration for under $5 in Field-Tested and below. Griffin (Vanguard) is the quieter dark option at the same price.
Go lower and the M4A4 still has options. Etch Lord, from the Kilowatt Case, was under $1 in every wear except Factory New, and its black body with fine etched lines suits a stealth kit. Sheet Lightning (Boreal Collection) has gold-toned furniture and was under $1 from Field-Tested down. Turbine (Gallery) is copper and rust, under $2 in Field-Tested.
Under $20

Spider Lily (Operation Riptide) sets a red flower on deep blue and was under $10 in Field-Tested. Hellish, from the Train 2025 Collection, is orange flame on black: under $20 in Field-Tested and under $10 in Battle-Scarred. Desolate Space (Gamma), with its purple space scene and skull, and 龍王 (Dragon King) (Chroma), with a purple and orange dragon, both sat under $20 in Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred.
Cyber Security (Broken Fang) is a bright pop-art mix of cyan, yellow and red, under $20 from Field-Tested down. Polysoup (Graphic Design) was under $10 in Field-Tested. All of these are Classified or Restricted, so they're one or two tiers below Covert, and you'd struggle to tell from across a map.
Under $50

Covert M4A4s are cheaper than most players expect. Temukau (Revolution Collection), In Living Color (Snakebite), Neo-Noir (Clutch) and The Battlestar (Wildfire) were all under $50 in Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred on 10 October 2026, and In Living Color, Neo-Noir and The Battlestar were under $50 in Minimal Wear too. Full Throttle, the Genesis Collection's neon-yellow Covert, was under $50 from Field-Tested down.
The Emperor (Prisma) was under $50 only in Field-Tested. If you want a Covert with every wear in budget, The Battlestar is the safe bet: its float stops at 0.64, so even Battle-Scarred keeps the engraving legible. To buy, compare the same wear on Skinport, DMarket and SkinBaron on the same day.
Wear on the M4A4: where the money goes
A finish's float range decides which wears can exist and how rough the worst one gets. Several budget M4A4s stop well short of 1.00: Evil Daimyo at 0.52, The Battlestar and Polysoup at 0.64, Tooth Fairy at 0.73 and Dragon King at 0.75. On those, Battle-Scarred is a mild scuff rather than a wreck, which makes the bottom wear a fair buy. Finishes that run the full range, like Etch Lord, Spider Lily and Hellish, can look properly battered at 0.90-plus, so check the float on the listing before you pay.
Our rule of thumb for looks: busy, multicolour art hides scratches, and big flat colour fields show them. Cyber Security, In Living Color and Temukau stay readable in Field-Tested; a solid-red rifle like Evil Daimyo is worth Minimal Wear if the step is small, and on our check date it was, since both wears sat under $5. Factory New rarely pays on a budget: on most picks above it cost about three times the Field-Tested price or more, and on Griffin over 25 times.
Covert M4A4s have one more source of demand. Since 22 October 2025, five Coverts can be traded up for a knife or gloves from one input's collection, so crafters buy cheap Coverts to consume them. It's a second kind of buyer alongside players who want the look. On our check date, no Covert in this guide had a wear listed under $20.

| #17 | Asiimov | none | none | $100+ | $100+ | <$100 |
Two rows are outliers. The M4A4 Asiimov's float starts at 0.18, so it has no Factory New or Minimal Wear, and its Field-Tested sat over $100. The Howl isn't in the table at all: the community database lists it as the only M4A4 at Contraband rarity, and its cheapest listing on our check date was over $4,000. Neither is a budget skin, whatever the old lists say.
New M4A4 finishes since 2024
Lists written in 2023 can't include any of these. The Kilowatt Case arrived on 6 February 2024 with Etch Lord. On 31 March 2025 Valve added the Radiant, Ascent and Boreal collections to the weekly drop list, bringing Steel Work, Naval Shred Camo and Sheet Lightning. The Genesis Collection, released on 16 September 2025, added Full Throttle, the newest Covert M4A4 in this guide.
In 2026 the Achroma Collection joined the drop list on 21 January with Aeolian Dark, and the Dead Hand Collection arrived on 11 March with Zubastick, a silver-grey Mil-Spec. Steel Work, Aeolian Dark and Zubastick were under $1 in every wear on our check date. Collections we couldn't date from Valve's notes add more M4A4s that 2023 lists miss, such as Turbine (Gallery), Choppa (Fever), Hellish (Train 2025) and Dark Operative (Spy Tech), so they're left off the timeline. The community database now counts 52 M4A4 finishes.
M4A4 or M4A1-S: which slot to spend on
On the CT side you equip one or the other in the same loadout slot, so a skin on the rifle you don't use never shows. Pick the rifle first, then spend. On price, the two split by tier. At Restricted the M4A1-S is cheaper: its typical finish's cheapest listing was $1.14 against $4.72 for the M4A4. At Classified they're closer ($10.49 vs $15.01). At Covert the M4A4 wins clearly, $59.41 against $106.85.
So the M4A4 is the better rifle for a first Covert, and the M4A1-S is the easier one to dress cheaply below that. If you use the silenced rifle, Black Lotus (purple floral on black) and Solitude (teal with a moon) were both under $5 in Field-Tested, and Nightmare (cyan and blue) under $10. The M4A4 has 52 finishes to the M4A1-S's 46, so its catalogue is slightly deeper too.
Edge cases
- StatTrak: most picks have a StatTrak version at a premium; Sheet Lightning, Hellish and Polysoup don't.
- Trade-locked copies: cheaper listings may still be inside Valve's 7-day Trade Protection window; our bands leave them out.
- Souvenirs: some finishes also exist as tournament Souvenirs with stickers applied, priced separately.
- Matching the kit: pair a red M4A4 like Evil Daimyo with an AK from our AK-47 budget guide, or see the loadouts page.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best M4A4 skin on a budget?
Evil Daimyo for most players: bright red and black, under $5 from Minimal Wear down on 10 Oct 2026. Tooth Fairy is the Classified alternative in the same band, and Temukau the Covert pick under $50.
What is the cheapest M4A4 skin?
Low-tier finishes like Steel Work, Aeolian Dark and Zubastick were under $1 in every wear on 10 Oct 2026. Etch Lord was the cheapest one we'd actually put in a loadout.
How many M4A4 skins are there?
About 52, per the community item database in October 2026, against 46 for the M4A1-S. Recent additions include Full Throttle (Genesis, 2025) and Zubastick (Dead Hand, 2026).
Is the M4A4 Howl still available?
It trades, but it isn't a budget skin. The community database lists it as the only Contraband M4A4, and its cheapest listing on 10 Oct 2026 was over $4,000.
Should I buy M4A4 or M4A1-S skins?
Buy for the rifle you actually equip, since both share one slot. On price, M4A1-S finishes were cheaper at Restricted tier and M4A4 Coverts were cheaper at the top, on 10 Oct 2026 Skinport data.
